The CogTalk
The CogTalk aims at fostering interdisciplinary conversations around the broad concepts of the mind and brain. We also bring in issues from evolution, society, culture, language and others when they directly touch upon the central theme of The CogTalk. It is a student's initiative at the Centre for Neural and Cognitive Sciences, University of Hyderabad (an Institution of Eminence). Our speakers represent some of the most outstanding and prolific achievers in the field of mind and brain sciences. Since we aim to also expand and push new ideas at the horizon of these sciences, we engage with those who have their eyes set in future but with a solid hold on the past. The CogTalk prefers not to engage with more typical sociopolitical topics and opinions in the journalistic style since many other platforms cater to those. We bring speakers and audiences together for their liking of deep and thought provoking analysis over issues related to cognition in the broadest sense possible. The frequency of episodes depends on several things but we try to organize at least two every month. You may like to have a look at our previous talks to get a better idea of what The CogTalk is.
Format
The format is a blend of both formal presentations and conversations along with audience questions. We typically begin with a presentation by the invited speaker(s), followed by a dialogue/conversation with a discussant. The emphasis of the dialogue is on discussing interesting and significant assertions/facts raised by the speaker(s) during the presentation. Finally, a student moderator presents audience questions to the speaker(s). Recently we moved from a physical format to the online mode using zoom webinars. All events require participation through registration. To register for an upcoming event please visit the upcoming events tab. People
The CogTalk happens because many students provide valuable help in all aspects of the program. Starting from liaising with speakers, setting the online platform, editing to hosting the website is done by students. Vaishnavi helps in maintaining the website and has designed it. Seema Prasad coordinates with speakers and addresses their questions. Manasa edits videos and looks after their uploading on various platforms. With new people joining the lab, the responsibilities are being shared among them.
